Should I be suspicious of an MRE seller? I hate to do that since the guy in question has seriously good prices. However, his prices are almost too good!

I was at an expo yesterday at the trade show centre, looking over various tables and booths of businessmen selling camping equipment, survival gear, and army/navy surplus. One guy had boxes upon boxes of MREs and was selling them cheaper than anyone in the room.

He said his prices were so low because he wanted to undercut everyone else in the room. I asked him where he got MREs so cheap that he could do that, and he refused to tell me, which is what bothered me and made me a little suspicious.

He claimed he wouldn't reveal his source because then his customers would just bypass him and not buy from him, which sounds reasonable on paper, but there was a twitch in his eye that worried me. Could he be selling civilian MREs that he stamped as military manufactured? Worse yet, were these supposed to be destroyed and wound up on the market anyway? That would be a real problem for me.

In the end, I decided to go with a different more reputable seller who was more than happy to answer all my questions.
